Thought from me:
If financial advisers
are so smart, how come they still have to work?
Burning
question ....
Why do psychics need answering machines?
Note: This article was written a considerable time ago, so some things may be a bit dated
As noted elsewhere I have changed the moniker I write under to Captain Tom. Ever since my Travelwrite website got hijacked and converted to a porn site I have gone out of my way to distance myself from the old name. So, hopefully I can get the old references changed quickly.
A lot of months ago all registered gun owners got a notice telling them it was time to register the guns they own. And they can do it for free too... Since then we have found out the whole mistake is going to cost a BILLION dollars. So, my present advise is register a gun, but only register what you can afford to loose. When they come to us to recover the costs our weapons will probably cost a thousand dollars a year. Pay em, or loose em, they will know who we are.
Meantime, I hope someone will email me and prove what I am saying here is wrong! Please, because if it is correct it scares the shit out of me.
I own a scanner, and listen to it regularly. I am a licensed amateur radio operator as well. So, I am not a crank, and know the consequences of the "Official Secrets Act". So, am taking a risk in even publishing the following...
The information may or may not have come from the scanner. So, please take this for what it says.
The RCMP has access to the records found in the National Gun Registry! When they pull you over they can check the records to see if you are a registered gun owner. Not only that, if you were refused a registration they are also aware of that fact. It naturally follows that if you have a weapon with you that is not registered they will have access to that information too. And the subject of seizure will naturally apply.
Now, we as gun owners are naturally more than willing to comply with the laws of the land. Heck (expletive substituted) I see/saw nothing wrong with telling the registry that I was/am a gun owner. That is until I found out the use of the information. I see the point of the RCMP needing to know who they are confronting on a road. But, as one with no criminal record I think that they do not need to know if I own a gun. As a conscientious gun owner I think just by registering that I am being open and above board. As a criminal it is assumed by any sensible person that no such record would be voluntarily given. And, who knows if you lied on the application anyway. No one can possibly check out every application.
Now, you as a reader may or not be aware of just what happens when a check is made on you. If you have ever had a run in with the law they have a record of it. Even if they have been called as part of a complaint on you it is there. So, if the little old lady next door (no disrespect intended to the little old ladies, my mother is one of them) has had cause to send the police to your door they have a record of it. Take the information in the above into consideration, but that itself is not the point. The point is that a firearms application and/or a criminal record goes with everything you do. Please, I beg you, consider the actions of owning and registering a gun. Be responsible and cautious. I am not saying don't register. I am saying, don't be surprised when you loose your weapons because you have not done so.
I personally don't know where to take this as it smacks of a violation of my civil trust. And, if it is not true, please set me straight right away. My email address is everywhere on these pages. If anyone proves I am wrong I will correct it immediately!
And, in light of the cost over-run report and the disclosure that the whole thing is privatized... our records are in some leaky computer in Nova Scotia (or New Brunswick). Any terrorist looking for guns just has to hack the records and come and get ours. As I have said before, some fellow in a ski mask in the middle of the summer comes to my door asking for my guns, I am going to give them to em. Bugger the fact that the goverment will eventually sue me for something like "improper storage".

Over the last 7 or so years I have written a number of articles on varous subjects. Perhaps you might get a chuckle over them. Here is a partial list...
