Mount Rushmore National Monument

In all my travels I have to admit I have never found a more moving man made monument anywhere. It is not the biggest mountain I have ever seen, nor is it the most artistic sculpture. But there is something about it that sets it apart. First I have to congratulate the people responsible for it's presentation. Even before I got out of the RV I knew the feeling one gets in the presence of true history. Even the ultimate commercial aspect that we all expect to see is so well done that one does not feel at all imposed on. I have to commend the scultor. Borglum was indeed a visionary, and all the stories do not do justice to the real thing.

Leave plenty of time, there is so much to see and do on the way up to the mountain. It is actually impossible to do any real exploring and enjoying the area and its attractions in anything less than 3 days, and at that you are pushing it!

I could have spent over a day just in the area of Keystone, as a matter of fact, I should have taken up residence at one of the many fine accomodations this town has to offer. Instead I blew all my money on treasures!

Take lots of time, see the area. And a little photo hint, the best photograph of Rushmore is from the roadway just before you get to the site. It's not hard to find, all the locals are there taking pictures.
