OLD RADIOS

1958 Philips Table Radio

Refered to as a "plano" radio because of the keys. In the 50's these radios were the ultimate in Hi Fidelity sound. The sound to this day is still awsome. All that had to be done to this one was the replacement of a couple of tubes.

Someone painted the inside of the radio white, for the life of me I don't know why. However it is totally complete.
Right down to the transport screws that pulled the chassis down to the case for transport. These were usually lost as the instructions for installation told owners to remove them. These obviously were never even loosened. The radio must have buzzed a bit on low bass sounds as that was the purpose of mounting the chassis on rubber.

One should note on the top picture that there was a Philips crest on the front. I have never seen another radio with this crest.

The back indicated that the radio was sold by Philips Canada, Toronto Ontario.

In the 50's and 60's Lafayette Electronics was one of the biggies. They had stores all over the US (none that I know of in Canada). Here is a tube portable radio from that era made for them. Used octal 1.5 volt tubes.

Needed a tube, made up a battery pack and heading for the beach...

Not technically a radio, but an amplifier. A nice little 12 Watt mono amp. I just picked up in a garage sale. It needed some repair, but it was only two bucks. Well, later repairs proved everything is not a bargain. I t has since joined my "parts bin"

In order to support these radios and future ones I have also started a collection of test equipment. Click to visit that page or click here to return to the menu page.
